and so obviously charles is just there for moral support and to steer sean away from the rings he obviously can't afford and the ones moira would hate and to say things like, "um, it's moira. i don't think she wants you to propose to her. frankly, i think she wants to sit down and have a conversation about marriage and then go from there," and sean is like, "but i can't do that without a ring! she'll think i don't mean it!" so charles says fine.
only, when he gets to the store, there's this ring that would be perfect for erik, okay? totally, totally perfect. and he's been thinking about marriage a lot, because he adores erik, and he knows they're going to spend the rest of their lives together, but he also wants to get married. and the ring is right there. and it's perfect. so he kind of has to buy it, right? it's fate!
